Howl's Moving Castle

Studio Ghibli's animated film 'Howl's Moving Castle' was the starting point for this project. We had to reimagine the worlds in the film, the characters and their style, then pitch our idea with designs, before realising one of them. This was my first experience of using digital techniques to design - I used a Wacom trackpad on Photoshop.

This costume is for Madame Suliman, including imagery from flowers like the Devil's Trumpet, which represents power, and Bergamot, representing wealth. The skirt is hand dyed with added godets, the corset was the only component of the project that had to be completely hand made. We were encourage to repurpose garments - the shirt was dyed with tea and I cut off the top of it, before adding a drawstring. The wrap on her hips was crocheted by me and the accessories were sourced. 

Below I have included my music video for 'Rhiannon' by Fleetwood Mac, the song I chose for my moving image part of the submission - Stevie Nicks was a key influence for this costume.
